Aléa by Simea Cavelti

"The fluid presence in our bodies is our fundamental environment; we are the moving water brought to land." - Emilie Conrad

Aléa maps out the poetic and physical resonance between two performers from the standpoint of water as both memory and imaginary. The piece is inspired by water as a connective, exclusionary and transformative force. The movement is raw and curious as the performers engage with the notion of fluidity both inside and outside their bodies tracing linkages to their environment on different levels of scale.
An "Aléa" is an event that is beyond human control, or at least partially; therefore, this creation deals with the body's ability to adapt and react to phenomena. It explores the human and organic capacity to consent to the unknown and unexpected while integrating it into the existing context. Choreographically the work shifts between set material and improvisation and elaborates how to shift between the two. ALÉA creates a space of intersections between imagination, intimacy and pragmatic genuine composition in space and time. Inspired by the substance and poetry of water, a dance in dialogue emerges and creates room for autonomy. Departing from their curiosity, fragility and resilience, Lena Schattenberg and Simea Cavelti explore the transformation of this choreographic work continuously.
