STILLSTAND by Michael Akstaller & Lena Schattenberg

In Stillstand, dancer and choreographer Lena Schattenberg and visual artist and musician Michael Akstaller explore the thresholds between sound, body, and perception. Drawing on the musical principle of the loop—the endless repetition of a fragment—they create a walkable, acoustic-performative installation that understands stillness as a state of constant change. Movement and sound circulate, shift subtly, redirecting attention: away from the obvious, toward the detail.

Through the interplay of micro-physiological movement and spatially diffused sound, a fragile tension unfolds—between precision and deviation, control and exhaustion. Perception is guided, slowed, sharpened—until new meanings emerge within the cycle.

Stillstand deliberately avoids linear narration. Instead, it opens a field where both audience and performers can lose themselves, discover, and reorient anew. The work is site-specific, weaving sculptural sound, choreographic intervention, and architectural observation into a multi-layered experience.
